Alberta health officials have issued a public alert for potential exposure to hepatitis A at Denny’s Restaurant Granville on Winterburn Road. Anyone who consumed food from this Edmonton restaurant on the following dates is eligible for post-exposure immunization, according to a public health news release: Hepatitis A is an infection of the liver caused by a virus. Immunization can only be administered within 14 days of initial exposure and can prevent infection. The vaccine is single-dose. Anyone who receives the vaccine should watch for symptoms for 50 days afterwards and contact a doctor if they experience: Some people, especially young children, are able to carry the infection without noticing symptoms. They are still infectious. Hepatitis A can be spread through the fecal-oral route after direct contact. People can contract the illness indirectly by ingesting contaminated food or water. Those with the virus can transmit it through food and beverages if not properly washing their hands.
