Edmonton hit a high of 27 C on Monday and should be in the same range for the next few days, with a chance to hit 30 C on Friday. A big upper ridge (bubble of warm air aloft) sits over much of the prairies, centred on Saskatchewan. Heat warnings will remain in effect for southeastern and east-central Alberta throughout the rest of the week with highs in the 30s and morning lows in the mid teens. Meanwhile, the back edge of the ridge is over western Alberta where temperatures will be about 10 degrees “cooler” (around 20 C for highs). We’ll see the best chance for showers and thunderstorms along the edge of that ridge in the west and across northern Alberta today and Wednesday. BUT...there’s also a chance of some isolated storms in southern Alberta late today and possibly over central Alberta on Wednesday. I’m keeping a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the forecast for the Edmonton region for each of the next few days. However, anything that does pop up in the area should be short-lived and very spotty. Most of the area will stay dry for most of the next few days. There’s a big pattern change coming this weekend. The timing of the rain is still a little uncertain, but it’s looking very likely that we’ll get some steadier rain and cooler temperatures for a few days. The rain could start as early as late Saturday, or it might hold off until Sunday. Either way, Sunday looks wet and the possibility of some rain lingering into Monday morning also exists.
