There’s not a lot of blue sky in the forecast over the next few days for the Edmonton area. We may see some sunny breaks today, but overall, more cloud than sun – especially as the day wears on. A trough of low pressure will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms to most of the province starting in the west this afternoon and moving east through the evening hours. The most likely timeframe for the Edmonton area is late this afternoon and early this evening. A low-pressure system spins up over southern Alberta on Friday and brings an earlier risk of showers and thunderstorms to the Edmonton region. We could see things start up midday or through the afternoon hours. The main risk for storms will be in the Edmonton/Red Deer area and up into east-central and northeastearn Alberta. The potential for a few severe storms exists on Friday. The weekend remains uncertain, but it’s trending drier than it was looking previously. Most of Saturday’s looking dry (and sunny/partly cloudy). I still think there’s a chance of some showers and/or thunderstorms in the evening or late-night Saturday and I’m carrying that chance of showers into early Sunday. Sunday afternoon SHOULD be rain-free in the Edmonton region. Daytime highs will hover in the 17 to 20 C range today through Saturday. Sunday’s looking a bit cooler: mid-teens in the afternoon.
