Temperatures jumped back to 20 C on Wednesday and we’ll stay in that range for the next five to 10 days (or longer). Forecast highs range from 18 to 23 C through the rest of this week and all of next week in Edmonton. (The long-term average for this time of year is 15-16 C.) But, it IS spring (our windy season)... so expect some gusty days off and on through the next week or two. Today and Friday should be two of those breezy days. Gusts near 40 km/h are expected to develop midday today and through this afternoon. The wind will die down tonight and then gusts to 30 km/h will pop back up by late Friday morning. Saturday and early Sunday look calmer, but it’ll probably turn gusty again late Sunday and through Monday/Tuesday. Precipitation Outlook: A few scattered showers moved through the Edmonton area Wednesday night, but most spots didn’t get any significant moisture. The overall trend for the next five to ten days is for things to remain relatively dry, despite the chance of a couple showers here and there, particularly in the afternoon Sunday. There just doesn’t look to be a large system brewing that’ll bring any heavier, steadier rain to the area any time soon. Outside of the Edmonton area, a few showers and possibly a thunderstorm will develop in western Alberta later today. We’re also expecting some showers in northeastern Alberta tonight and early Friday. A couple showers are possible in the Hinton/Edson areas early Saturday. Sunday, a trough of low pressure developing over the province will produce scattered showers (and a few thunderstorms) in parts of north-central and northern Alberta, very similar to the setup we had over those areas on Wednesday.
