Edmonton Police Service (EPS) arrested a man in connection with a sexual assault case at the end of July, but investigators believe there may be more than one victim. Marklester Cruz, 41, is accused of the sexual assault of a minor and sexual interference. EPS says it has “reasonable grounds to believe Cruz may continue to pose a risk to vulnerable youth.” EPS says Cruz was known to host vulnerable young people in the community at his place in northwest Edmonton, meaning investigators believe there may be others victimized who have yet to come forward. He was released on Aug. 21 on court-imposed conditions, including not to possess any weapons, attend parks or other locations where children under 16 are reasonably expected to be present. Cruz is also prohibited from volunteering or working in any position or trust or authority involving children under 16 years old. Police released Cruz’s identity and photo in the interest of public safety, they said.
