The reopening of Telus World of Science Edmonton (TWOSE) has been delayed as the full scope of the repair work has been determined. The centre was forced to close after the building flooded during a storm on July 10. Officials initially announced that TWOSE would reopen in November, but on Tuesday said repairs would not be completed until December, with a reopening date in early 2027. “An exact reopening date will be announced as restoration progresses, and the timeline becomes more certain,” TWOSE said in a news release. Affected areas of the centre will require extensive remediation, including the removal and replacement of flooring, cabinetry, drywall, and other building materials. TWOSE says many areas of the centre are still restricted to workers wearing personal protective equipment. The centre is currently accepting donations to help with the restoration through its website. The shutdown of TWOSE resulted in the temporary layoffs of 147 employees, about 68 per cent of the centre’s workers.
