There’s a mid-week chill on the way and a chance of some flurries or light snow Tuesday night/Wednesday in the Edmonton area. But, we should be sunny and up around 6 C Monday afternoon. We’re at that time of year where the average temperatures start to drop fairly rapidly. Edmonton’s average high was 14 C just a few weeks ago, it sits around 7 C today and Tuesday...then drops to around 1 C by the end of the first week of November. Forecast temperatures won’t move as linearly. We’ll slip to highs around the freezing mark for the middle of this week and then climb back into the 2 to 6 C range for the coming weekend and next week. Bottom line: A chillier pattern has settled in, but we’re not in for anything TOO FAR out of the ordinary. Edmonton will see a slightly cooler-than-average last few days of October and then right around average for the first week of November. The snow forecast is a tricky one for the Edmonton region. An area of low pressure over southern Alberta Tuesday will quickly move off into southern Saskatchewan. That system will very likely bring some rain/freezing rain/snow to southern Alberta and will also target eastern Alberta with some snow for late Tuesday into Wednesday. Some accumulation is possible in the east. Another area of snow will develop in western Alberta where we get some upsloping easterly wind. The question for Edmonton is: Do either of those two snow zones stretch far enough to reach the city? There’s a chance that we get snow in eastern and western Alberta, but little to none in the Edmonton area. However, I think there’s a better chance that we get at least SOME flurries or light snow... so I’ve put a 60-per cent chance in for Tuesday night and Wednesday. If we get through Wednesday without any snow, there’s a SLIGHT RISK of a few flurries on Halloween. Tuesday of next week (Nov. 3) might be the next best chance for some precipitation after Tuesday night/Wednesday of this week. Here’s the forecast for Edmonton and area: Today - Mainly sunny. High: 6 Tonight - Increasing cloud overnight. 9pm: 1 Tuesday - Mostly cloudy. 60% chance of flurries in the evening and overnight. Morning Low: -3 Afternoon High: 4 Wednesday - Cloudy. 60% chance of flurries/light snow. Wind NW 15 gusting to 30 km/h. Morning Low: -2 Afternoon High: -1 Thursday - Mostly cloudy.
