Our late-summer warm spell is winding down this week. Temperatures will be about 10 to 15 degrees cooler by the end of the week as the upper ridge moves off and gets replaced by a cool pool of air aloft. But, it should be a fairly gradual cooldown. We’re into the mid 20s under mainly sunny skies for one more day in Edmonton Monday. Most of Tuesday should be sunny and we’ll hit a high around 21 C. Tuesday evening brings some clouds and a chance of a few scattered showers to central and north-central Alberta. It doesn’t look like anything significant, but a few hit-n-miss showers are possible in the Edmonton region late Tuesday night as the back edge of the ridge moves through. A weak low-pressure system moves up through southern and eastern Alberta late Wednesday and that’ll bring some showers to parts of central/north-central Alberta. The daytime hours should be dry and we’ll get close to 20 C Wednesday afternoon, then a risk of a few showers Wednesday evening in the Edmonton area. Behind that system, the cooler air really starts to settle in and we’ll only get to the mid teens on Thursday. Saturday and Sunday are also expected to have afternoon highs in the mid teens. Friday’s the big uncertainty in the forecast. There’s an area of low pressure that’ll move into southern Alberta or southern Saskatchewan and some of the modelling is projecting a broad area of steadier rain on the WNW side of that system. There’s still a lot to be determined with the track and strength of that system. We could be dealing with heavy, steady rain and a high near 10 C on Friday...or...it could just be cloudy with a chance of a few showers and a high closer to 13 C or 14 C.
