Saskatoon’s University Bridge and College Drive are now open for vehicles after months of being closed for construction. The City of Saskatoon says they reopened Friday afternoon. The University Bridge, southbound Clarence Avenue turning off the bridge and the south lanes of College Drive between Clarence Avenue and Hospital Drive are now open to traffic. There are currently two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, on College Drive from the University Bridge to Hospital Drive. East of Hospital Drive, traffic will continue using the two south lanes, with one lane in each direction, through to Cumberland Avenue. The reopening was delayed several times. The closure was part of a major infrastructure project along the College Drive corridor, affecting traffic in one of the city’s busiest areas for several months. The bridge and parts of College Drive have been closed since spring for infrastructure work and rapid transit upgrades. The roadways were originally expected to reopen by mid-June, but the timeline was pushed back several times. However, some restrictions still remain in the area. The City of Saskatoon says the exit from University Bridge to Saskatchewan Crescent remains closed, while University Drive between Elliott Street and College Drive and Wiggins Avenue south of College Drive also remain closed to vehicles. Construction and lane restrictions also continue on nearby roads as work to fully reopen Clarence Avenue and Saskatchewan Crescent continues.
