Our run of above-average temperatures looks like it’ll continue through the weekend and all of next week. Edmonton hit a high of 22 C on Thursday and we’ll be in the 20s Saturday-Tuesday. There is some cooler air that’ll drop into northern Alberta today, especially the northeast corner of the province. So, Fort McMurray and Cold Lake hit 20 C yesterday... but should only get to around 10 C in Fort McMurray today and around 15 C in Cold Lake. Both areas have a chance of some scattered showers. Grande Prairie hit 23 C on Thursday, but drops to a high near 17 C today. Edmonton won’t feel as much of an impact, but we’ll be a couple degrees cooler than yesterday. Temperatures should top out around 19 C with gusts around 30 km/h starting midday and continuing through the afternoon. Saturday looks like a fairly calm day. We’ll start out with some clouds and then skies will clear through the afternoon hours. Showers are expected for areas from around Edson southeast towards Red Deer overnight and early Saturday, but that precipitation will miss the Edmonton area. There’s a chance of some scattered showers in north-central Alberta on Sunday. That includes a slight risk for the Edmonton region late in the day Sunday, but no significant moisture is expected. Gusts will pick up to the 30-40 km/h range again for Sunday/Monday. Looking LONG range: No sign of a big cool down any time soon. Anyone thinking about getting an early start on planting shouldn’t have to worry about frost through at least the next two weeks. But, there’s also not much moisture in the forecast. After Sunday’s slight chance, there’s another slim possibility of some showers late next week. But, again, that doesn’t appear to be a big rain-making system.
