The Edmonton area gets back to highs near 20 C for today and the rest of this week after starting the week with highs of 13 C Monday and 12 Tuesday C. Morning lows should also be a lot milder than the past few days as we’ll only get down to the 5-8 degree range through the remainder of the week and the coming weekend. We’ll get some increasing cloud through the day today with 10-20 km/h wind. An area of low pressure develops in the lee of the Rockies later today, bringing some showers and possibly a thunderstorm or two to western AB. Those showers will move southeast late this afternoon and tonight, so MOST (possibly all) of the showers will stay south of Edmonton. However, there’s a slight chance of a scattered shower in the Edmonton area late this afternoon and/or tonight. Gusty conditions are expected through Thursday/Friday across central and north-central AB. Once again, some cooler air will drop into northeast AB for late Thursday and Friday/Saturday. We’ll see some showers in the northeast corner of the province, especially Friday. That precipitation and cool air won’t move in over Edmonton. BUT...we’ll see a bit of a dip, and probably “only” get to a high around 17 or 18 C on Friday. Weekend outlook Calmer, but a bit cloudier for the Edmonton area on Saturday as the gusts ease up for a day. A few showers will develop in the foothills Saturday morning. You could make the case for adding a slight chance of a shower to the forecast for Edmonton Saturday morning. But, I’ve left it out and think that precip will all stay a ways off to the west and south. We may see the gusts return on Sunday as an area of low pressure develops over central AB. There’s a fair amount of uncertainty with where the showers will pop up, but we’ll likely get some showers (and possibly a thunderstorm) on the northern edge of that system. So...I’ve added in a chance of some afternoon and/or evening showers in the Edmonton region for Mother’s Day. Bottom line: warmer air is moving in and will stick around for a while. Daytime highs will be in the 17 to 22 degree range for the next five to seven days and mornings will be well above the freezing mark. It’s still a fairly dry forecast overall, but there are a couple of hit-and-miss showers possible, especially late today and Sunday afternoon.
