It’s that TVT time of year. TVT, short for the Titans Volleyball Tournament, is a longstanding event hosted by Harry Ainlay High School over three weeks. The school’s junior and senior boys and girls Titans teams each host their own three-day tournament. The junior tournaments were held last week, with St. Albert’s Paul Kane defeating Harry Ainlay in the junior boys final and Grande Prairie’s Charles Spencer beating Red Deer’s Lindsay Thurber to capture the junior girls title. This week, the senior squads welcome seven rivals each to south Edmonton for competition at Harry Ainlay’s large and small gyms, as well as the gym at neighbouring Catholic high school Louis St. Laurent. Next week, Harry Ainlay will host junior high boys and girls tournaments. Tyler Greenslade, Ainlay’s athletic director, said the tournament helps the Titans squads hone their skills with the Metro Edmonton High School season already underway. “It’s really high level volleyball when we consider in the province the five schools that are in the mix for provincials,” he told CTV News Edmonton. This is kind of what the end of November (playoffs) might look like." Senior competition began Thursday. Both the Ainlay boys and girls will face teams from Charles Spencer, Lindsay Thurber, Airdrie’s W.H. Croxford and Lethbridge Collegiate Institute. The senior boys field also includes Edmonton’s Jasper Place and Lillian Osborne, while the senior girls tournament features Edmonton’s Strathcona and Yale Secondary of Abbotsford, B.C. Last year, the Titans’ senior girls squad won bronze at provincials. Both of Lindsay Thurber’s senior teams took gold. Senior boys and girls squads for Charles Spencer and W.H.
