Brant County seeks public input on noise bylaw

The County of Brant is reviewing its noise bylaw and inviting residents and businesses to share their feedback.

Officials said, as the community continues to grow, there are changing expectations around construction, events and daily activities.

“Recent conversations around events have highlighted the challenges of balancing community enjoyment with concerns from nearby residents,” a media release read, in part. “In some cases, noise complaints and uncertainty around exemptions have raised questions about how noise is managed and how decisions are made.”

At a meeting on March 17, council endorsed a revised approach noise regulation.

“This hybrid model will use qualitative standards for general noise enforcement which means assessing whether noise is likely to disturb others,” the release explained. “It also uses quantitative decibel limits for specific, recurring noise issues such as live music and residential air conditioners.”

The county asks residents to share their input online through a public engagement platform.
