Cambridge man charged after dog seriously injured in stabbing incident

Waterloo Regional Police have charged a Cambridge man after an altercation left a dog seriously injured and another man with minor injuries.

Police said officers were called on Saturday at approximately 11 a.m., to investigate an incident that reportedly occurred the night before at a residential property near Harris Street and Maple Ridge Road in Cambridge.

“Investigators learned that an altercation had taken place, during which a dog was stabbed and sustained significant injuries,” police said in a media release. “A male was also stabbed and suffered minor physical injuries. The dog was transported to a local animal hospital and is expected to recover.”

As a result of the investigation, a 68-year-old Cambridge man has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and injury to an animal.

Police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
