A man from Six Nations of the Grand River faces a long list of charges after what police call “a dangerous chain of events.” It started Tuesday around 3 p.m. when a Six Nations Police officer tried to stop a driver on Sixth Line near Onondaga Road after they received a complaint. The driver refused to stop and drove off. He was later spotted in the River Range Road area, where he hit a police cruiser and a Six Nations Police officer fired a gun. The driver continued trying to get away and hit multiple police vehicles before ending up in a ditch. The driver was arrested and taken to hospital with minor injuries. The Ontario Provincial Police were asked to lead the investigation and charged a 29-year-old from Six Nations with two counts of assault with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer, flight from a police officer, two counts of operation of a vehicle while prohibited, operation of a vehicle while impaired, dangerous operation of a vehicle and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. The OPP addressed the situation in a social media post Wednesday, and called the incident “a dangerous chain of events.” Anyone who has surveillance or dashcam footage of the driver or the incident is asked to reach out to police.
