Thousands of music lovers are anticipated to flock to downtown Barrie on Saturday as the Troubadour Festival Summer Concert Series rocks Meridian Place for its second summer concert along the waterfront. After The Road Hammers kicked off the series in June, this weekend’s lineup features another mix of Canadian talent and home-grown performers. Canadian rock band The Watchmen will headline Saturday night, taking the stage at 8:30 p.m. The band is known for hits like Stereo and Brand New Day and continues to perform for fans across Canada more than 30 years after getting its start. Watchmen lead singer Daniel Greaves says Barrie can expect plenty of melody in the band’s music this weekend. “I wrap myself around melody when I’m writing songs, and there’s a lot of that in our music. We have some aggression, power, rock and roll and some quieter moments,” said Greaves in an exclusive interview with CTV’s Sarah Freemark. Stuck on Planet Earth will open for the headliners at 7:30 p.m., while the Local Opener Showcase gets underway at 5 p.m. with sounds from from Siobhan Bodrug, Noise Hotel and Nix Ironstone. “You’re going to get a rocking show. It’s a little bit of Evanescence, Paramore and The Pretty Reckless,” said Ironstone in an interview with CTV News. “It’s very female-fronted, female-powered rock and I’m so excited to rock with Barrie.” There will be more than just music. Families can enjoy all-day programing, free inflatables, arts and crafts and plenty of space to take in the jam-packed event. “The best part of the Troubadour Festival is that it’s an all-ages atmosphere. And that doesn’t just stand for the show it’s about going downtown, enjoying all the great restaurants, the cafés and, obviously, the views. It’s a family experience,” said Jason McCoy of The Road Hammers and host of Nothin’ But the 106. New this year is an upgraded stage experience and more regional talent, plus the return of the popular Local Opener Showcase. Barrie has just two days to go.
