Severe thunderstorm warning for southwestern Ontario

The risk of rain continues into Friday. CTV's Karis Mapp has the details.

Southern Ontario could get hit with a thunderstorm Thursday afternoon.

Environment Canada said conditions are favourable for strong winds and toonie-sized hail.

The agency issued the alert for all areas south of Waterloo Region, Brantford, Arthur, Clifford and Saugeen Shores.

“Showers and thunderstorms are expected to intensify early this afternoon,” it said. “Once the storms have intensified there is a risk of a brief tornado.”

Wind gusts could ramp up to 90 km/h.

Environment Canada said the storm could continue into Thursday evening.
