Former Fredericton police officer facing perjury, breach of trust charges has died

A former Fredericton constables charged with perjury and breach of trust has died.

A former Fredericton police officer who was facing charges of perjury, breach of trust and uttering forged documents has died.

On Tuesday, the Fredericton Police Force said former constable Andrew Savoy, 28, was charged due to alleged incidents from his time as an officer with them from 2023 to January 2026.

On Thursday, police said they learned Savoy had died.

“We extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends, many of whom were also his colleagues within our organization,” a statement from police reads.

“We recognize the impact of this news and that it may be felt deeply across our policing community. Out of respect for the family, we will not be commenting further on the matter.”

Fredericton police previously said they submitted a criminal complaint to the Miramichi Police Force after an internal audit of Savoy’s files found inconsistencies.

Savoy resigned from the force in January and was due to appear in court on Aug. 28.
