Early-morning gunfire in London sends one person to hospital, police seek witnesses

A person is recovering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting in downtown London, according to police.

Shortly after 6 a.m. on Sunday, police said a man showed up at the hospital with apparent gunshot wounds and hospital staff contacted police.

Officers learned the incident happened at an after-hours establishment located in the 600-block of Richmond Street.

In a statement to CTV News, police described the after-hours establishment as, “Venues that operate outside regulated hours and oversight, often in violation of liquor licensing, municipal bylaws or other legislation, increasing the risk of violence and unsafe conditions.”

Police said an altercation involving multiple people is believed to have taken place inside the establishment, during which the male victim was assaulted. When staff attempted to intervene, multiple gunshots were heard.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., or who may have dash-cam or residential/business video surveillance footage, to contact the London Police Service.
