A person has died following an early morning house fire in London. Emergency crews were called to a residence on Lyman Street, just north of Oxford Street East, shortly after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. London fire officials said one resident and a dog were able to safely escape the home. The individual who evacuated told firefighters there may have been another person still inside. Firefighters entered the property and found a person on the main floor. Crews determined the individual was deceased. According to deputy chief Gary Bridge, when firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were visible from the home. The fire caused significant damage to the residence. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials have not released any information about the identity of the deceased. The London police Major Crime Section and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office have taken over the investigation. Authorities did not comment when asked whether the fire is considered suspicious.
