Sarnia police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a pair of early morning break-and-enters that happened around 4 a.m. Tuesday. Surveillance footage captured an individual smashing a business door, stealing a cash register tray, and fleeing the scene on a scooter. The Sarnia Police Service reported responding to calls regarding broken windows at two businesses located in the Northgate Plaza, situated in the 500 block of Exmouth Avenue. The incidents took place shortly after 4 a.m. Officers arriving at the scene found that glass doors had been broken. While no suspect was present at the time of the initial police response, surveillance video obtained from one of the businesses provided crucial details of the crime. The footage shows the suspect throwing an object to shatter the glass door, entering the premises, and then vaulting over a counter. The individual proceeded to rip the cash register tray from its housing before making a swift exit on a scooter. The suspect is described as a male, believed to be between 20 and 30 years of age. At the time of the incident, the individual was wearing a grey “CAT” brand hooded sweater, dark jeans, white and black high-top shoes, and a black hat. A key identifying feature is an orange bandana worn to cover the face. The suspect also wore mismatched gloves, one black and one yellow. Multiple layers of clothing were apparent, with a white shirt visible underneath the hooded sweater. Individuals with any relevant information are asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service directly at 519-344-8861.
