What are you reading? If it’s Aug. 12, it is a chance to answer that question with, “this book by a Montreal writer” because it’s Quebec Book Day. “It’s a lovely day where people can go out and support our provincial publishers, local authors,” said Pulp Books & Cafe owner Alex Nierenhausen. “We have such good talent in Montreal. We’re super, super lucky.” Nierenhausen and his partner Daphne Anctil set up a table in their shop covered in books by Montreal authors. They are far from the only bookstore doing it. “People do bookstore runs on this day, where they will try to visit as many bookstores as they can to also support the independent bookstores in Montreal and in Quebec,” said Nierenhausen. “It’s important to get local writers telling different stories,” said Ennie Skurczak, who was perusing books at Pulp. “You have all of your bestsellers and everything, but it is always nice to read stories from Montrealers being published in Montreal.”
