These Montreal restaurants were ranked among the best in Canada

Nearly 30 Montreal restaurants have been listed as some of the best dining options across Canada, according to a new ranking.

The 2026 edition of the Canada’s 100 Best restaurants list is now out, with Montreal’s Mon Lapin winning the number two spot for a second year in a row.

In Montreal, three restaurants made the top 10: Mon Lapin (#2), Beba (#6), and Le Violon (#8). Pearl Morissette, a fine dining restaurant near Niagara Falls, Ont., was crowned number 1 in Canada this year.

Here are five of the best Montreal restaurants, according to their ranking on Canada’s 100 Best.

No. 2 - Mon Lapin

Crowned the best restaurant in the country back-to-back in 2023 and 2024, the restaurant on Saint-Zotique Street in Montreal’s Little Italy “has quietly made a name for itself” over the last eight years, according to the Canada’s 100 Best website.

“The menu reads simply — ingredients, producers — but what arrives can surprise in the best way. Leeks tucked into a tin like mussels. Habanada peppers filled with baccalà. Black Roma tomatoes stuffed with Rimouski urchin. The croque-pétoncle. A strudel layered with confit shallots and crowned with a slice of Samuel le Bleu.”

No. 6 - Beba

Ari and Pablo Schor named their 28-seat restaurant, Beba, after their beloved grandmother when the brothers opened it in 2019 on Éthel Street in Verdun.

“Much of its appeal is attributable to the brothers’ generous sense of hospitality, but more important still is their commitment to being the best possible ambassadors for their rich, but locally unusual, Argentine-Jewish culinary tradition,” Canada’s 100 Best noted.

No. 8 - Le Violon

Le Violon, in Montreal’s famed Plateau neighbourhood, cracked the top 10 this year after coming in at #11 in last year’s ranking.

Its success, the online magazine ranking stated, is attributable to its “elegantly understated design” and “the smart, restrained cooking from co-chefs Danny Smiles and Mitch Laughren and their chef de cuisine, Sara Raspa.”

“The menu is continually evolving, but certain constants can be relied upon — when in season, freshly caught Nova Scotia tuna, for example, or monkfish, the latter paired with a juicy pork dumpling, celeriac threads and a lobster bisque scented with Périgord truffle,” the website stated.

No. 13 - Montréal Plaza

This recently renovated eatery on St-Hubert Street in the city’s La Petite-Patrie neighbourhood is committed to having fun, marked by the “whimsical” touches like Elmo seated at the bar and plastic triceratops on the pass.

Co-chefs and co-owners Charles-Antoine Crête and Cheryl Johnson “push boundaries, leaning on French tradition while embracing Japanese” with offerings like Crème d’oursin and Trout on a cloud — “a textural play of house-smoked trout, cured trout roe, capers, lemon and dill on Carasau-style bread.”

No. 21 - Rôtisserie La Lune

The team behind Mon Lapin take a Quebec staple — rotisserie chicken — and then “rebuild the genre from the bones up,” according to Canada’s 100 Best.

“Chickens and ducks from small farms roast slowly on the spit and arrive golden, served with hand-punched fries and a generous pour of house-made chicken gravy.”

This place on the edge of Little Italy “blends brasserie warmth with subtle lunar motifs” offering a unique dining experience for families and late-night eats.
