While most details are under a court-ordered publication ban, police in Timmins have arrested five people following a joint investigation with Ontario Provincial Police that began last month. “As a result of the investigation, officers obtained a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant for a residence,” Timmins police said in an Oct. 2 news release. “Sept. 29, (police) successfully executed the search warrant and five people have been charged,” the release said. “There is currently a Section 517 publication ban in place. The ban captures information (including the name of the individual), evidence, or representations made at the bail hearing. Bail conditions and any evidence or materials relied upon at the hearing are prohibited from disclosure.” “Investigations of this nature demonstrate the importance of strong partnerships and a coordinated approach to keeping our community safe,” Staff Sgt. Camile Camirand said in the release. “The successful execution of this warrant is the result of the dedication and professionalism of our members and our continued collaboration with the OPP. Removing significant quantities of dangerous illicit drugs from our community contributes directly to public safety, and we will continue to work with our policing partners to address drug trafficking and the harms associated with it.” Anyone with information regarding drug trafficking or other criminal activity in their community is encouraged to contact the Timmins Police Service at 705-264-1201.
