Ontario Provincial Police charged an Espanola suspect Tuesday after a man was shot in the leg following an altercation at a motel in McKerrow. Officers responded to a weapons-related call Nov. 3 at around 6:15 p.m. on Highway 17, police said in a news release Wednesday. “One individual was armed with a kitchen knife, while the other was in possession of a shotgun,” police said. “One person sustained a gunshot wound to the left leg and subsequently barricaded themselves inside a motel room before losing consciousness.” Officers gained access to the room, provided first aid and arranged for the injured individual to be transported to a hospital in Sudbury for treatment, police said. A 51-year-old man faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, discharge of a firearm with intent and careless use of a firearm. The accused was held for a bail hearing and will appear in court in Espanola at a later date.
