Police in Greater Sudbury have arrested a 33-year-old suspect in connection with a theft that took place late Thursday evening at a business on Regent Street. A call for service came in around 11 p.m., police said in a news release July 24. “Information provided indicated that a male suspect had entered the establishment and told staff that someone was waiting outside with a firearm before demanding cash,” police said. “The suspect then fled the scene, and police were contacted. Officers attended the scene and, based on the description of the suspect provided, were then able to locate the man just before 11:30 p.m. in the downtown core.” He was taken into custody without incident and officers recovered some of the stolen money. “Police did not recover a firearm and have no evidence to suggest that a firearm was involved,” the release said. He has since been charged with robbery and remains in custody ahead of a bail hearing.
