Timmins mayor announces she’s running for re-election

Michelle Boileau announced Monday that she is running for re-election as mayor of Timmins.

In a news release, Boileau said she wants to “build on the momentum of the past four years with steady leadership, tangible action and a clear focus on the city’s future.”

“A lifelong Timmins resident, proud francophone, and mother of two, Boileau said her campaign will focus on building a stronger Timmins for families, workers, and local businesses – a city where people can put down roots and build a future that lasts,” the release said.

“Over the past four years, Timmins has advanced major priorities in infrastructure, housing, economic development, and community planning.”

The release said that her campaign will centre on three priorities: preparing Timmins for the future through infrastructure, investment, and innovation; strengthening a community where families can thrive, people feel connected, and opportunity is within reach; and positioning Timmins to lead in responsible growth, including clean industry and emerging economic opportunities.

Boileau said in the release that the next term is about turning that momentum into results and making sure the city is ready for the opportunities ahead.

Born and raised in Timmins

“Timmins is my home. I was born and raised here, and I’m proud to be raising my family here,” Boileau is quoted as saying in the news release, add that she’s running again because “the job isn’t finished.”

“We’ve made real progress – from advancing key infrastructure and housing projects to strengthening how we tell Timmins’ story and attract investment,” she said.

“Now we need to keep building a city that is stronger, more connected, and ready for what’s next.”

Boileau was a city councillor for four years before being elected mayor in 2022.

Her background includes work in post-secondary education, employment services, immigration and community and economic development.

“Timmins has always been a community that works hard, looks out for one another, and rises to the occasion,” Boileau added. “I’m asking residents to join me in building what comes next.”
