Ottawa firefighters respond to hedge fire that spread to house, vehicle

Ottawa firefighters say crews spent over an hour battling a fire that seriously damaged a west end home Wednesday afternoon.

The Ottawa Fire Services say they received multiple 911 calls for a blaze at a single-family home on Andover Place, east of Woodroffe Avenue, at approximately 3:53 p.m.

Initial reports said a hedge on fire had extended to the home and a vehicle.

Firefighters arrived within three minutes and began to douse the flames with a hose.

An Ottawa paramedics spokesperson tells CTV News that one person was treated on scene with minor injuries but was not taken to hospital.

Two full searches of the home found no occupants trapped inside.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control at approximately 4:05 p.m.

One of the neighbouring homes suffered some radiant heat damage, but firefighters were able to protect the nearby homes that were at risk of catching fire, Ottawa Fire Services said.

Victim services was called to the scene to assist residents living inside.

The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation.
