Ottawa paramedics and firefighters freed a man who became trapped after a tree he was cutting fell on him Tuesday evening. The call came in at around 7:30 p.m. The man was cutting a tree along Richardson Side Road near Highway 417. The tree fell on the man’s leg, trapping him. In a post on Instagram, Ottawa paramedics said responders applied a tourniquet to prevent significant blood loss and gave the man pain medicine, while firefighters used chainsaws to remove the log and bring the man out of the woods. “This incident highlights the value of coordinated emergency response and the strong partnership between Ottawa Paramedic Service and Ottawa Fire Services. Through effective teamwork, communication, and collaboration, first responders were able to deliver timely care in this adverse environment,” the post said. Paramedic spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps said it took about 45 minutes to free the man before he was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
