Ottawa police are investigating after discovering suspicious pills scattered throughout two parks located near one another in the city’s east end this weekend. In a news release on Saturday, police said they attended Blue Willow Park off Longleaf Drive in Orléans after a resident reported finding suspicious pills in the park around 11 a.m. On Sunday morning, police said officers identified a second park in the area, Silverbirch Park on Silverbirch Street, where pills had also been scattered. Silverbirch Park and Blue Willow Park are located approximately 750 metres apart. Ottawa police say officers found more than 100 pills of various types at the two parks, and the pills are being analyzed to determine their composition. Officers say they found pills scattered near bushes and trees, on the grass and concealed inside acorns at Blue Willow Park. “As a precaution, residents are reminded not to touch or handle any suspicious substances found in public spaces. Children and pets should be closely supervised in the area,” police said. “Anyone who locates pills or other unknown substances is asked to leave them in place and contact police immediately.” An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ottawa Police East General Assignment Section at 613-236-1222, extension 3566. Anonymous tips can be provided to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
