Ottawa residents can roll up their sleeves starting next week to get the flu shot and COVID-19 vaccine. Ottawa Public Health says the COVID-19 and flu vaccines will be available to everyone ages six months and older who lives, works or attends school in Ontario, starting on Monday, Oct. 26. “Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is encouraging residents to protect themselves and their loved ones this respiratory illness season by receiving recommended vaccines,” OPH said in a statement. “Vaccination is the most effective way to reduce the risk of severe illness, complications and hospitalization from respiratory viruses.” The health unit said there was a sharp increase in influenza cases and hospitalizations among children during the 2026-26 flu season. The COVID-19 and flu vaccines will be available from your primary care provider or at participating pharmacies in Ottawa. The health unit says many pharmacies will offer both walk-in services and appointments. Ottawa Public Health will be offering the COVID-19 and flu vaccines to “eligible populations who face barriers to accessing vaccinations through a pharmacy or their primary care provider,” according to the health unit. You can visit the Ottawa Public Health flu and COVID-19 webpages for additional information on clinic eligibility and how to book an appointment. Ottawa Public Health says that while the COVID-19 and flu vaccines offer “the best protection against severe respiratory illness,” you can take steps to reduce the spread of viruses, including washing your hands often, covering your mouth and noise when you cough or sneeze and staying home when you’re sick.
