A 37-year-old man from Kayville, Sask. is facing several charges after 43 firearms were seized at a home in the community. Coronach RCMP received a report of a firearms-related incident in Kayville on July 26 around 3 p.m., according to an update from Saskatchewan RCMP on Thursday. RCMP say that a man was walking outside when another man at a property across the road pointed a firearm in their direction. The weapon was not discharged, and no physical injuries were reported to police. On Wednesday, Coronach RCMP and the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Response Team arrested a man in Avonlea, then executed a search warrant at a home in Kayville. During a search, officers found about 25 kilograms of explosive material, 43 firearms, multiple prohibited firearm magazines, and ammunition. The 37-year-old man is facing one count of tampering with the serial number of a firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing its possession is unauthorized, pointing a firearm and unlawfully possessing unsecured high hazard explosives. He is also facing three counts of unsafe storage of firearms. He’s been remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Thursday. In relation to the investigation, there was an increased police presence in the Kayville and Avonlea areas. RCMP say there is no longer a police presence and no risk to public safety. Kayville is located about 119 kilometres southwest of Regina.
