The University of Regina Rams clinched a playoff berth with an 18-12 win over the University of Calgary Dinos on Saturday afternoon at Mosaic Stadium. Rams star running back Marshall Erichsen tied the school record for rushing touchdowns in a single season (set by Neal Hughes in 2003 and matched by Adrian Charles in 2010) with nine on the ground. The journeyman back now has 859 yards - which is now the sixth highest in school history and 113 back of the school record set by Charles in the 2010 season. The Rams failed to score any points in the opening quarter but the defense held strong. Regina gave up just 11 first downs in the entire game and limited Calgary’s offence to 241 yards. “Our team continues to find ways to win close games,” said head coach Mark McConkey “I didn’t think we played our best game of football. Our defence continues to be strong.” The Rams and Dinos entered the second half tied at six. Vince Triumbari connected on a 46-yard field goal for Calgary to regain the lead. The Rams replied with their only touchdown of the game on a 10-play, 75 yard drive engineered by quarterback Noah Pelletier and capped off by Erichsen as he bounced to the outside and found the end zone. Rams defenders Liam LaBelle and Anthony Montas Leipert both earned a sack. The defensive front collected four pass break-ups led by veteran Carson Sombach. The University of Regina Rams return to action on Oct. 18 in Edmonton against the University of Alberta Golden Bears.
