An 86-year-old man who was recently reported missing was killed in a vehicle-pedestrian crash Wednesday afternoon. In a Thursday news release, Regina police confirmed that Qili Dong succumbed to injuries he sustained after a collision on Ring Road between Wascana Parkway and Assiniboine Avenue East. Regina Police Service issued a news release informing the public of Dong’s disappearance at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday. Just 40 minutes later, they sent another release advising the public of a motor vehicle collision on Ring Road, causing temporary traffic restrictions between Wascana Parkway and Assiniboine Avenue East. RPS says officers arrived within minutes of the crash and found Dong with serious injuries. He was attended to by EMS, who attempted life-saving measures. However, he eventually succumbed to his injuries. The collision is currently being investigated by RPS’ collision analysis team and the traffic restrictions were lifted as of Wednesday evening. Dong’s death is the latest in a recent surge of vehicle-pedestrian collisions in Regina. There have been over a dozen reported collisions involving vehicles and pedestrians or cyclists in Regina since Sept. 18, resulting in two fatalities.
