An attempt to break into a car dealership in Kitchener, Ont. was reportedly thwarted by an observant neighbour. According to Extreme Motors Ltd., two people approached the business near Weber Street West and Louisa Street just before midnight on Sept. 27. One of them wore a blue hoodie, the other wore a red hoodie. The business shared video with CTV News that showed one of the people pull out a grinder and soon after, sparks could be seen coming from a lock on a gate. At the time, one of Extreme Motors Ltd.’s co-owners, Adnan Khan, was just leaving a concert. “I was having a great time with my family. I was in Toronto at a concert and I was just coming out,” he said. Khan also owns two properties across the street. He said one of the tenants there spotted what was happened, yelled at the would-be thieves, called the police and reached out to an employee who lives at the other property that Khan owns. “He called me and said, “Just come out quickly because someone is breaking the lock,’” Adbul Farooqi, the Extreme Motors Ltd. employee, said. “I just jumped – moving quickly. Then I saw two cops already here and I saw the lock was already cut.” The Waterloo Regional Police Service confirmed they were called to the area, but by the time they arrived, the suspects were already gone. Extreme Motors Ltd. called the break-in attempt a failed robbery and said nothing was taken. Previous arson attempt The events of that night conjure up memories of another incident that happened a little over a year ago. In September 2025, Extreme Motors Ltd. was also targeted by arson. Scorch marks can still be found on the pavement of the business’ lot. Security video showed a person dressed in black clothing walk up to several vehicles and pour liquid on them from a blue jerrycan. Moments later, six vehicles were set alight, including a Mercedes, a Mustang and a Maserati. The damage estimate came in at $250,000. “We do have commercial insurance and stuff, but, you know, commercial insurance is totally different,” Khan said. “There are deductibles, big heavy deductibles, on each vehicle. Just when the renewal came in December, our insurance went really, really, really high. More than $30,000 a year.” After two decades at the same location, Khan doesn’t plan to move, but he said being downtown has been a challenge. “Every day we see there is crime,” he said. “It’s very sad. It’s very painful to Canada.”
