Swift Current business charged with exploiting foreign workers

A business in southwest Saskatchewan is facing several charges related to taking advantage of foreign workers over the course of nearly three years.

Syed Taha Rizvi, along with a numbered corporation, listed as 102092451 Saskatchewan Ltd., each face four charges under The Foreign Worker Recruitment and Immigration Services Act, 2013 (FWRISA) and further four charges under The Immigration Services Act (ISA).

The charges include:

• Two counts of taking unfair advantage of a foreign national’s trust or exploiting a foreign national’s fear or lack of experience
• Two counts of charging a free or expense to a foreign worker for employment

The pair faces the same charges under the ISA.

The alleged offences took place at the Swift Current Huskey Travel Centre between September 2023 and August 2025.

The first court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 19 at Swift Current Provincial Court.
