The CPKC Holiday Train will once again roll through Saskatchewan this December, bringing bright lights, live music and holiday cheer to several communities. The train kicks off Nov. 19, stopping in Montreal West, QC. It’s the first of 182 live music shows across six Canadian provinces and 13 U.S. states. “Our railroaders take great pride in bringing the Holiday Train through hundreds of communities across our network to support people facing food insecurity,” says CPKC President and CEO Keith Creel. Since its inaugural journey in 1999, the train has raised more than $28 million and approximately 5.6 million pounds of food for community food banks. “Through the generosity of the thousands of families and fans who come out to see the Holiday Train and support local food banks, whether for the first time or as part of a long-running holiday tradition, we can spread the joy of the season and support the giving spirit of the holidays,” Creel added. The Canadian leg of the Holiday Train features eight stops in Saskatchewan. They include: Dec. 6 - Moosomin @ Noon Dec. 6 - Broadview @ 2 p.m. Dec. 6 - Indian Head @ 4:15 p.m. Dec. 6 - Qu’Appelle @ 5:30 p.m. Dec. 6 - Regina @ 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 - Moose Jaw @ 4:30 p.m. Dec. 7 - Swift Current @ 9:45 p.m. Dec. 8 - Maple Creek @ 12:45 p.m. Canadian musician Tyler Shaw and American rock band American Authors will perform during all of the above stops. The train will make three more Saskatchewan visits Dec. 20, stopping in North Portal at noon, Estevan at 3:15 p.m., and Weyburn at 6:00 p.m. Canadian musicians Jamie Fine and Shawnee Kish will perform during those stops. Attendees at all Saskatchewan stops are encouraged to bring a non-perishable donation for their local food bank. CPKC is reminding attendees to dress for the weather and stay safe during their visit. “Stay 15 metres or 50 feet back from the tracks when taking photos/videos or viewing the Holiday Train. Never take a picture or video standing on the track or the ballast rock, and always stand back from the locomotive and rail cars,” CPKC says. CPKC, based out of Calgary, is the first and only single-line transnational railways linking Canada, the United State and Mexico. A full list of CPKC Holiday Train stops can be found here.
