Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe, as well as members of his cabinet, are set to speak on the topic of the ongoing trade war with the U.S. this afternoon. Moe and his ministers are expected to speak to reporters at 1 p.m. in Prince Albert. The premier has been vocal in recent days as the trade war between Canada and the U.S. heats up, with the federal government announcing counter-tariffs to the newly unveiled U.S. tariffs. In his latest statement issued on Tuesday, Moe noted his support for the federal government’s counter-tariffs, covering about $1.5 billion or 11.3 percent of Saskatchewan’s annual imports from the U.S. Moe noted the province is analyzing the counter-tariff list closely and is committed to working with the affected industries to determine the impacts while also reviewing federal support for those industries. “While this is the appropriate response to the latest round of US tariffs, we can never lose sight of the fact that all tariffs hurt businesses, jobs, consumers and families on both sides of the border,” Moe said in the statement. “Our ultimate goal must be to get back to a free and fair-trade relationship with the US, as we have enjoyed for many years.” More details to come…
