Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate after an Ontario Provincial Police vehicle crashed with another vehicle during a police pursuit early Thursday morning in North York, sending one person to hospital. Police say they were called to the intersection of Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West shortly after midnight. They say the driver of the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. In a statement provided to CP24, the SIU said police were “in pursuit of a stolen vehicle” when the collision occurred. “The female driver of the car involved in the collision was taken to hospital where she was treated for a non-life-threatening injury,” they said. The Special Investigations Unit is a civilian agency that is called in to investigate when police are involved in an incident that results in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person. The intersection has since reopened after previously being closed for a investigation.
