Police are asking witnesses to come forward after a fatal crash on Highway 1 through Abbotsford earlier this week. First responders were initially called to the single-vehicle crash near Cole Road just before 1:45 a.m. Monday. A green Subaru Impreza had left the roadway, rolled, and landed on its roof in the median, according to police. The male driver was hospitalized with serious injuries and the female passenger died at the scene. B.C. Highway Patrol has now taken over the case. “Police are investigating the possibility that alcohol impairment was a factor in this collision,” Sgt. Michael McLaughlin said in an update Wednesday. “Witnesses to the collision did not initially stop, and it’s very important that those same witnesses get in contact with B.C. Highway Patrol.” In particular, investigators are asking for statements or video in the area around the collision site from between 12 a.m. and 3 a.m. Police ask anyone who saw the green Subaru’s driving, the crash, or who knows what the driver’s behaviour was in the hours before the crash, to call 604-702-4039 and mention file number (1501) 2026-31210.
