A thick plume of black smoke could be seen above Duncan Wednesday morning as emergency crews rushed to a structure fire on Festubert Street. The Duncan Fire Department responded to the blaze at a residential property between Trunk Road and Coronation Avenue with support from the North Cowichan South End Fire Department and Cowichan Bay Volunteer Fire Rescue. Early information indicates the fire began in a residential carport, sending heavy smoke into the sky above the city. The City of Duncan is asking the public to avoid Festubert Street between Trunk Road and Coronation Avenue to allow emergency crews space to work safely.
