Crash closes Sea to Sky Highway for several hours

A vehicle incident led to an hours-long closure on the Sea to Sky Highway on Sunday, leaving many drivers stranded in their cars until the early hours of Monday morning.

The crash happened just after 5:30 p.m., and Highway 99 was shut down in both directions near the Deeks Creek Bridge, a few kilometres north of Lions Bay.

Officials said the closure would be lengthy due to a police investigation.

The highway would not fully reopen until approximately 2 a.m.

B.C. Emergency Health Services, which does not confirm fatalities, says it sent two ground ambulances and one air ambulance to the scene, but paramedics did not transport any patients to hospital.

At 3:25 a.m., DriveBC reported “extremely busy” traffic southbound.
