A 41-year-old man riding an electric dirt bike fled police and refused a breathalyzer in B.C.’s Fraser Valley last week, according to authorities, who said he was arrested and had his bike seized. The rider was spotted in Mission and officers attempted to stop him because riding electric dirt bikes on city streets is illegal, a statement from the RCMP said. “The rider told the officer, ‘You’re not taking my bike,’ then sped away,” Mounties said, adding that the man was ultimately stopped by police a short time later. “The 41-year-old displayed signs of being impaired by liquor and refused to provide a sample into a roadside screening device.” The rider was arrested for fleeing police, handed a 90-day driving prohibition for refusing to comply with the demand for a breathalyzer and ticketed for violations of the Motor Vehicle Act. “The officer did take his bike…to the tow yard,” the statement from the Mission RCMP said. Those who are caught operating an electric dirtbike illegally by driving it on public streets can face a $598 fine for driving without insurance, in addition to other penalties.
