Voters across Vancouver Island will head to the polls on Oct. 17, with CTV and CFAX 1070 bringing audiences live municipal election coverage as results come in Saturday night. Coverage begins when polls close at 8 p.m., with updates from municipal races across the region, including reporters checking in from candidate headquarters in Victoria, Saanich and Langford. CFAX 1070 election host Ryan Price will join Adam and Josh in the main studio, while Steve Young provides updates from the news desk. A radio pre-show featuring David Black will begin after the football game ends. The pre-show will air on radio only, ahead of the main election night broadcast. Viewers can watch the live video stream on the CFAX 1070 YouTube channel, while listeners can tune in to CFAX 1070 AM or stream the audio through iHeartRadio. The station has also streamed mayoral debates in several communities, giving voters a chance to hear directly from candidates before election night: For Price, municipal elections deserve particular attention because local government decisions directly impact residents’ everyday lives. “This is your property taxes. This is the rec centre and the parks you use day to day and the roads you drive on,” Price said. “I think municipal elections are the most critical thing for getting in your face, in your life. It’s really important for people to get up, get out and vote.” Price said the campaign has been marked by a range of contentious issues, with priorities varying from one municipality to the next. “This election has been wild for a lot of reasons—a lot of hot issues. They all are different depending on what community you’re in, and this is your chance to have your say,” he said.
