First season of City Hall Square ice rink wraps up in Windsor

As temperatures warm up, outdoor ice rinks in Windsor and LaSalle have closed for the season.

The outdoor skating season has come to an end at the downtown ice rink in Windsor.

The city says the City Hall Square Ice Rink at 350 City Hall Square West has officially closed for the season as warmer temperatures arrive.

Municipal officials say the first season of the newly installed rink was a success, quickly becoming a popular gathering place that hosted a range of events while offering residents and visitors outdoor skating opportunities throughout the winter.

City staff will begin dismantling the seasonal setup in the coming days. Fencing will be installed around the rink while crews remove the ice surface and winter décor.

Once weather conditions permit, the square will transition back to its warm-weather configuration, including reopening the central water feature and surrounding seating areas for spring and summer use.

The city thanked residents for supporting the inaugural season of skating downtown and says it looks forward to welcoming the community back to the rink next winter.
