Dauphin hospital damage ‘significant,’ will take months to repair

Prairie Mountain Health has shared more details about the damage Dauphin Regional Health Centre received during flooding last month.

Prairie Mountain Health is giving people a glimpse of how much damage the Dauphin Regional Health Centre received during a significant rainstorm in June.

The hospital evacuated 54 patients and officials said it could be months before the hospital is fully repaired.

According to an update on Monday from Prairie Mountain Health, the hospital received “significant damage” to critical infrastructure, such as the elevators, HVAC system and medical gases. Services in the basement of the hospital, such as the pharmacy, kitchen and laundry will require extensive assessment, remediation and replacement.

“Engineering, infrastructure, and mechanical experts are completing further assessments this week to determine the full scope of the damage and steps required to replace damaged infrastructure to safely restore services,” Prairie Mountain Health said in its update, adding timelines will be revealed once assessments are complete.

Prairie Mountain Health said its immediate focus is restoring community-based health-care services, diagnostic services and lab services as close to Dauphin as possible.

In the interim, the Ste. Rose Hospital Emergency Department is open 24/7, while the Grandview Emergency Department is open daily, but patients need to call 204-546-2425 to confirm hours.
