Police standoff in St. Vital ends in 2 hours, man faces 7 charges

A stand-off with the Winnipeg police’s tactical team ended in about two hours on Saturday.

Police said a standoff took place at a home in the one to 99 block of Sadler Avenue around 3:10 p.m.

A 41-year-old man barricaded himself in the home when officers tried to make contact. Officers negotiated with him, and about two hours later, he left the home and was arrested.

According to police, the man was subject to multiple protection orders and on Friday, emails were sent to the protected people from an account believed to be his. An arrest warrant was obtained, and police said they had information about the man having a firearm and “made concerning comments toward police on social media.”

The man is now facing seven charges of disobeying a court order and was detained in custody.

No charges have been tested in court.
