Winnipeg extortion suspect remains at large: police

One of two men wanted in connection with a series of extortion and arson incidents in Winnipeg has been arrested in Ontario.

Winnipeg police announced Thursday that Jermaine Weekes, 41, was arrested on May 1 in Toronto. Weekes was turned over to the Winnipeg Police Service, charged with two counts of extortion, and detained in custody. None of the charges have been proven in court.

Weekes is the fourth person arrested in connection with an extortion investigation that dates back to July 2025. Police previously said several businesses, including convenience stores, were targeted with threats of extortion and arson.

Five suspects were previously arrested in January 2026.

A Canada-wide warrant remains in place for 29-year-old Farhan Nabil. He is wanted on two counts of conspiracy to commit arson and two counts of conspiracy to commit extortion.
