Crews respond to two out of control Nova Scotia wildfires

Fire crews are responding to two out of control wildfires in Nova Scotia Thursday morning.

Jacket Lake wildfire

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency first responded to the Jacket Lake, N.S., area around 7 p.m. Wednesday following reports of heavy smoke.

Halifax Professional Fire Fighters, a union, says the fire is in a remote wooded area off Mooseland Road that is difficult to access.

Crews began working to contain the fire using ground resources before darkness fell.

Aerial resources from DNR were unavailable due to the time of day.

Crews have returned to the scene Thursday morning “to assess the extent of the fire and continue containment efforts.”

The public is being asked to avoid the area and follow any directions from emergency personnel.

The fire is estimated to be four hectares. A DNR helicopter is on route.

West Stoney Lake wildfire

DNR crews and volunteer fire departments are also responding to a fire in West Stoney Lake, Annapolis County.

A helicopter is on site and fixed-wing water bombers are on route.

The fire is estimated to be four hectares.
