A 46-year-old man from Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley is facing impaired driving charges after damage to a propane tank led to a propane leak. Emergency services responded to a report of a “significant propane leak” from a tank in a parking lot associated with several businesses on Commercial Street in New Minas, N.S., just before 6 p.m. on Sept. 29 The Nova Scotia RCMP says officers initially went to the scene to support fire services in case evacuations or road closures were necessary. “On further investigation, officers learned that a propane truck had filled a large tank on the property then drove away with the hose from the truck still attached, which caused damage to the tank and resulted in the leak. As the truck left the area, the hose also struck another vehicle in the lot,” reads a news release from the RCMP. Police say the driver of the vehicle struck by the hose reported injuries and was treated by EHS. No other injuries were reported, and fire services were able to stop the leak. After connecting with the company that owns the propane truck, police say the driver returned to the parking lot. “Officers noted signs of impairment by alcohol from the driver, who provided a roadside breath sample into an approved screening device (ASD) which resulted in a ‘fail,’” reads the release. The driver was arrested and taken to the RCMP detachment in New Minas where police say he provided breath samples that registered 180mg% and 170mg%. The unnamed man from North Kentville was released and scheduled to appear in court in November to face charges related to impaired driving.
